Independence Day – July 4
The Declaration Of Independence, which stated that the 13 American colonies no longer regarded themselves a part of the British Empire, was signed on July 4, 1776. This day also known as Fourth of July is a federal holiday in the United States. It is interesting to note that Thomas Jefferson and John Adams, the only signers of the Declaration of Independence who later served as Presidents of the United States both died on the 50th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1826.
Did You Know? July 20, 1969
On July 20th 1969, the first man walked on the earth’s moon. Apollo 11 launched from Cape Kennedy Space Center on July 16 with three astronauts: Neil Armstrong, Edwin Aldrin and Michael Collins. They returned to earth on July 24. Between 1959 and 1972 five additional Apollo missions landed on the moon. July 20 is recognized as Moon Day.
